Belinda the mom!

We finally got to meet Joshua (14 months) and see his mom. It was so great to see them and we ate Indian food in Indiana. Josh liked it too.

Bruno in Asia

Bruno the bodyguard left McMurdo Station after 14 months on Ice and flew on a C-17, again, to sweet freedom in Christchurch, New Zealand. One word of advice Bruno; SEATBELT.

Bruno went on a trip to Bankok, arrived by longtail boat at Railay Beach, (the only way to get there) where he lounged by the pool drinking iced coffees and reading, soaking up some much needed vitamin D from the sun. He went sea kayaking, hiking, swimming in the ocean, partied and slept. He got a Thai massage and ate lots of pad thai and and did holiday stuff. He was especially fond of hanging with the locals. It was a good week for gorilla travels.

Bruno in Dunedin, New Zealand

If you find yourself on the South Island of NZ, Bruno REALLY liked Billy Brown's Backpacker...a wonderful place with friendly and caring hosts. The beach is Aramoana and the penguins can be seen there sometimes. Albatross are at the tip of the Otago Peninsula....but Bruno didn't see either while there. He still had an excellent visit to Dunedin....which, he says, is Scottish for Edinburgh.

Bruno in Ruins

A long, long time ago, people known as "The Ancient Ones" lived in the Southwest....places like Bandelier, Mesa Verde, Chaco Canyon, Pecos, Salinas Pueblos, Wupatki, and many more. Others call them "Anasazi" but the correct terminology is "Ancestral Puebloans". Bruno enjoyed hikes through some of several sites of ruins when he got back to the good ol' USA in the Fall and Winter of 2005.

Grand Canyon

Bruno enjoys the fireplace (center floor) at Hermit's Rest, a fave spot of his at the Grand Canyon

Bruno makes friends with the locals. This local keeps his distance. Bruno is intimidating sometimes. After all, he IS a body guard.

Maria's in Santa Fe with Leza

Leza the lawyer flew in today from Washington D.C. Bruno took her out to dinner and she took to him immediately. She just GETS him. Margaritas at Maria's and blue corn enchiladas were the fare tonight in Santa Fe. Tomorrow Bruno is looking forward to seeing the mystical stairway at the chapel at Loretto. He's a quiet one but you can tell he's having fun.

Bruno has lots of travels to share. Stop back in and check out all the ancient ruins he went to recently.

Bruno down under

Bruno departed the Ice on a C17 in late August 2005 after many long months of darkness and no freshies. After McMurdo, he enjoyed travel in the South Island of New Zealand. Mostly he stayed in Christchurch. Among the many, many places he went was Kaikoura to see the seals. He went to Dunedin and stayed at Billie Brown's Backpackers. He took long drives in the beautiful country where sheep grazed and ocean waves crashed. It was an amazing month in New Zealand and he longs to go back. Kia Ora.
